How to Access Released TELPAS Items
The Centralized Reporting System (CRS) allows you to access Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) data. All TELPAS Released Tests through 2025 can be accessed through the Practice Tests page. You can also access the test questions with student responses in CRS.
How to Understand Reports in CRS
TELPAS is reported first at the composite level that is made up of four domains. The composite score is reported as being administered in the following ways: online only, online and paper, online and holistic, holistic only. Reporting category raw scores and scale scores are reported for online and paper tests, but items and individual item scores can only be accessed for online tests. Holistic assessments display only proficiency levels.
A sample roster report for a TELPAS online-only administration is shown in Figure 78. The Speaking domain is expanded to display item scores.
Figure 79 shows a similar report for an individual student. The Reading domain is expanded to display item scores.
How to Understand Online-Administered Item Data in Reports
For all four TELPAS domains, the numbering in the item column header might vary by student and does not indicate the item’s position on the assessment. Item numbers do not start at 1 in each domain because a combination of assessments are reported in concurrence.
In reports on groups of students, such as the Roster Performance on Test report shown in Figure 78, a score value of “n/a” indicates that a particular student never accessed the item (that is, he or she did not progress far enough in the assessment for the item to appear to the student in TDS). The Student Performance on Test report, shown in Figure 79, includes only the items the student accessed.

How to Understand Speaking Items
Each speaking item in the Test Delivery System (TDS) presents a prompt with an audio message the student can listen to before recording their response. The Item & Score tab in the CRS Item Access window includes playback controls for audio of both the prompt and the student response, as shown in the figures below. An item with the student setting(s) switch turned off, as in Figure 80, might display differently from the same item with the switch on.

Some examples of possible score values for TELPAS speaking items appear in the report shown in Figure 78. Below are general guidelines for understanding speaking item score values.
A score value of 0 for these speaking items indicates that the student accessed the item but did not provide any response. Although individual items may show a value of 0 or n/a at the item level in CRS, each speaking item has a minimum score of 1. This minimum score is reflected in the reporting category raw score and the student’s overall score.
If a student recorded any response to a speaking item:
The minimum score value is 1.
The maximum score value is 2 for items that allow a maximum 45-second recording and 4 for items that allow a maximum of 90 seconds.
When the student response audio player is grayed out and has a length of “0:00,” as in Figure 81 that means the student did not record a response.
How to Understand Constructed-Response Writing Items
Each constructed-response writing item in TDS presents a prompt to which the student responds by typing in a text box.

A score value of 0 for these writing items indicates that the student accessed the item but did not provide any response. Although individual items may show a value of 0 or n/a at the item level in CRS, minimum scores are set for constructed-response writing items. The minimum score is reflected in the reporting category raw score and the student’s overall score.
If the student typed any response to a constructed-response writing item:
For students in grades 2 and 3, the minimum score value is 2. For students in grades 4–12, the minimum score value is 3.
For students in grades 2 and 3, the maximum score value is 8. For students in grades 4–12, the maximum score value is 12.
