Student Report Cards

After each administration, an electronic student report card is provided for each student for whom an assessment record was submitted. Student report cards are confidential and must be made available to parents and guardians.

This page contains descriptions of the contents of student report cards for all state-mandated assessments.

The following information is provided on all student report cards:

  • Identification Information

This section contains identification information for both the student (name, grade, identification number, etc.) and the district. For confidentiality purposes, the student’s Texas Student Data System (TSDS) ID is indicated by six asterisks followed by the last four digits of the number.

  • Performance or Proficiency Level

Performance or proficiency levels are listed with abbreviated descriptions. Refer to the Performance and Proficiency Levels page for complete descriptions.

  • Performance or Proficiency at a Glance

This section shows the student’s performance or proficiency levels obtained for assessments the student has taken. If the student has taken an assessment more than once, his or her best performance level for that assessment will be shown.

  • Test Results

The student’s test results are shown and include:

    • Performance or Proficiency Level

The student’s performance or proficiency level obtained for the assessment is shown.

    • Scale Score

This bar shows the range of scale scores for each performance or proficiency level on the assessment. The scale score the student achieved on the assessment is shown on the bar within the corresponding level.

    • Reporting Categories

The content and skills tested on the assessment are grouped under reporting categories. The reporting categories and the number of points the student earned out of the total points possible in each reporting category are listed.

A report message might appear in place of the test results. Messages that might appear in this area include those in the following tables.

For STAAR grades 3–8 assessments, student report cards contain all subjects tested during the school year. In most cases, a student taking an above-grade assessment will receive two report cards, one for each grade. Students in grades 7 and 8 who took the Algebra I assessment during the spring administration will have their Algebra I results shown on their student report card along with the other grade-level assessments they took during the spring administration.

For STAAR end-of-course (EOC) assessments, student report cards contain cumulative results for all courses tested.

A former TAKS, TAAS, and TEAMS examinee who takes a STAAR EOC assessment as an alternate assessment to fulfill testing graduation requirements will receive a student report card that shows how well the examinee performed on the assessment. “Passed” means the student’s score met the required passing score for that assessment. “Did Not Pass” means the student’s score did not meet the required passing score for that assessment. Refer to the TAKS webpage for additional information.

In addition to the information described above for all student report cards, STAAR student report cards include the following information:

  • Test Results

For STAAR, this section provides the following additional information:

    • Test Information

If a student took a specific version of the assessment (e.g., online with embedded supports, paper with or without embedded supports, Spanish) that information is provided.

    • Percentile

This information provides the percentage of students who scored the same as or lower than the student’s score when comparing to all Texas students who took the same assessment in the current administration.

    • Math Badge

For students in grades 5, 6, or 7, the gold star icon informs parents that there is enough supporting evidence in their child’s assessment history to indicate that their child is ready to meaningfully engage in advanced mathematics course materials, such as Algebra I.

    • Middle School Advanced Mathematics Program

For students who took the STAAR grade 5 mathematics assessment, the gold trophy icon informs parents that their child scored high enough to be enrolled in an advanced mathematics course in sixth grade.

    • Accelerated Instruction

This message informs parents that their child did not receive a passing score on the assessment and is entitled to receive accelerated instruction.

  • Lexile® Measure

The Lexile measure indicates the difficulty of the materials that the student should be able to read successfully. The Lexile measure is reported in a range from Beginning Reader (BR or 0L) to a positive value in each grade (e.g., 1100L at grade 3, 1200L at grade 4).

  • Quantile® Measure

The Quantile measure indicates the difficulty of the math problems that the student should be able to solve successfully. The Quantile measure is reported in a range from Emerging Mathematician (EM or 0Q) to a positive value in each grade (e.g., 400Q at grade 3, 500Q at grade 4).

  • Progress

For students enrolled in grades 3–8, this section shows the student’s progress from the previous year to the current year in RLA and mathematics. A student can achieve Limited, Expected, or Accelerated progress. The graph shows the student’s previous year and current year scale scores as well as the performance levels into which the scale scores fall.
