Instructions for Designating a Student Eligible

District coordinators must review the criteria and verify that a student is eligible for a special administration of an online assessment. For a student who meets the eligibility criteria, the district must ensure either the Section 504 Indicator Code field or the Special Ed Indicator Code field is set to “Yes.” To change a student’s test mode, the district must select either “Paper” or “Holistic” in the Test Mode field. For paper administrations, the district must select the appropriate option in the Paper Test Format field. Options for the paper test format include the following:

  • regular print

  • large print

  • contracted braille

  • uncontracted braille

  • embedded supports

In order to receive materials in the initial order shipment, districts and campuses will need to select “Paper” for test mode and select the paper test format prior to the close of an administration’s initial order window. Refer to the Calendar of Events for the initial and additional order windows for applicable assessments.

For a student who is eligible for a special paper administration of STAAR Spanish, the district or campus will need to select Spanish in the dropdown menu for Presentation in the Test Attributes panel in TIDE. This will ensure the Spanish version of STAAR is available in DEI to submit the student’s responses.

For students taking STAAR contracted or uncontracted braille who are also eligible to receive content and language supports, it is recommended that “braille” be selected before the initial order window closing date. District personnel should then order the embedded supports test booklets during the additional order window.
